In an aggressive marketing campaign by NBC, the pilot episode was released across a broad range of media from satellite broadcasting to popular social networking websites such as Facebook, shown on United Airlines flights, freely distributed on video on demand on about 30 cable and satellite systems including Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Dish Network, on Yahoo, and from Amazon Unbox.[109]Also, prior to the airing of Chuck in the United Kingdom, the pilot episode was released as a free temporary download on iTunes.
Both Zachary Levi (Chuck Bartowski) and Brandon Routh (Daniel Shaw) have played comic book characters in movies. Stan Lee, who appears in an episode, was a comic-book writer, editor, and publisher, who was executive vice president and publisher of Marvel Comics. Zac played Fandral in Thor: The Dark World (2013) and Thor: Ragnarok (2017), then he played Shazam in Shazam! (2019) and Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023). Brandon played Clark Kent/Superman in Superman Returns (2006), Todd Ingram in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Water Crisis (2020), then played Ray Palmer/The Atom/Neron/Superman/Superman (Earth-96)/Clark Kent (Earth-96) in Arrow (2012), The Flash (2014), Supergirl (2015), DC's Legends of Tomorrow (2016) and Batwoman (2019).
